Crane and heavy-lift buyers move fast and carry serious liability. Your website needs to show fleet capacity, certified compliance and completed international projects before a buyer picks up the phone. Here is how to structure a site that converts that intent.
The buyer is already qualifying you before contact.
When a project manager needs a 1,200-tonne crane for an offshore module installation, they do not browse. They search, land on two or three operator sites and make a shortlist in under ten minutes. If your site cannot answer their core questions in that window, you are not on the list.
Those questions are straightforward. What equipment do you have? Are you certified for this type of lift? Have you done this kind of work internationally? How do I reach the right person quickly?
Most crane operator websites answer none of these questions well. Pages load slowly, fleet lists are buried in PDFs, and project pages show photos without tonnage or context. The result is a site that looks like a brochure and converts like one.

1. Fleet inventory with load charts front and center.
Your equipment is the product. Treat it that way.
Each crane or lifting asset should have its own page or a clean, filterable card in a fleet directory. Each entry needs the crane model and manufacturer, maximum lift capacity, boom configurations, hook heights, load charts as downloadable PDFs and current availability status if you can maintain it.
Buyers cross-reference your fleet against their lift plans. If they cannot find a load chart without emailing you, they find a competitor who posted one. That is the entire conversion problem in a sentence.
Filter options by capacity class (say, under 500 tonnes, 500 to 1,000 tonnes, over 1,000 tonnes) and by application type (crawler, lattice boom, offshore pedestal, strand jack). A buyer working a specific project type will narrow the list themselves and arrive at the right asset faster.
2. Certifications and compliance documentation.
Heavy-lift work carries significant liability. Buyers need to know you are certified before they involve their legal and HSE teams. Put this information where it requires no hunting.
Create a dedicated compliance page that lists your current certifications with issuing body, scope and expiry dates. Relevant standards vary by client and geography but commonly include OSHA compliance documentation, DNV or Lloyd's Register equipment certification, LEEA membership, ISO 9001 quality management, and IMR inspection records for marine or offshore assets.
If you operate internationally, note which jurisdictions your certifications cover. A European project developer needs to know whether your equipment and crew are compliant under EU Machinery Directive requirements. A Gulf operator needs API or ADNOC alignment. Be specific.
Downloadable certificates save buyers time and reduce back-and-forth before a project is even awarded. Post them. Update them when they renew. This is basic trust infrastructure, not a risk.
3. International project portfolio organised by complexity.
Case studies are where crane websites consistently underinvest. A gallery of photos with no context tells a buyer nothing they need to know.
Organise project case studies by lift tonnage range and application type. A page titled 'Heavy Industrial Lifts: 500 to 1,500 Tonnes' with five detailed entries is more useful than a general 'Projects' page with thirty thumbnail images.
Each case study should cover the client sector (not necessarily the client name), the location and jurisdiction, the lift weight and rigging configuration, the equipment used, the specific challenge (weather windows, confined access, load geometry) and the outcome. A short paragraph on what made this lift technically demanding tells a buyer you understand their world.
For firms competing on international work, show geographic spread explicitly. A world map with completed project locations is a fast visual proof of reach. It works.
4. Equipment specifications and rental or purchase options.
If you offer equipment rental, contract lift services or equipment sales alongside owner-operator work, make the commercial model clear. Buyers and procurement teams need to understand what they are pricing before they call.
A specification sheet for each major asset, formatted for print or download, reduces the number of pre-qualification exchanges and shortens the sales cycle. Pair each spec sheet with a clear description of the service model: do you supply operator and rigging crew, or is this a bare rental?
Pricing does not need to be published. But a clear explanation of how you quote, what variables affect cost (mobilisation distance, project duration, permit requirements) and roughly what the engagement process looks like removes uncertainty and signals professionalism.
5. Insurance and bonding documentation.
High-value projects require proof of insurance before any contract is signed. Many crane operator websites make buyers request this manually, adding delay to an already long procurement process.
Post your certificate of insurance summary on a dedicated page. Include coverage types, limits and the insurer's name. If you carry contractor's pollution liability, marine cargo coverage or umbrella excess for large lifts, say so.
Bonding documentation, where applicable, belongs on the same page. Buyers in public infrastructure, petrochemical and offshore sectors often have mandatory bonding thresholds. If you meet them, prove it.

6. Case studies of high-profile lifts.
Beyond the standard portfolio, give your two or three most technically complex lifts their own long-form case study pages. These pages serve two purposes: they rank for specific search queries from buyers researching similar projects, and they demonstrate depth of capability that a photo gallery cannot.
A good long-form case study covers the project context, the engineering constraints, the lift sequence, the equipment configuration, the safety plan and the result. Include the total weight lifted, the height or distance involved and any notable variables (tidal windows, wind restrictions, concurrent marine operations).
